THE BORDERLANDS GROUP READINESS ASSESSMENT

WHO WE SERVE

Western defense & technology companies

You are building for the largest rearmament since the Cold War — most likely on assumptions that have never been tested against a peer enemy.

Ukraine is where products meet peer electronic warfare, GPS denial, and massed drones. It is the only place on earth where your engineers get feedback from the people using the product, on timelines measured in weeks rather than programme years.

Nobody cares more about making your equipment work than the soldiers whose lives depend on it. No range in the United States will give you that, and no amount of internal testing substitutes for it.

We open the doors, run the field validation, and turn battlefield results into credibility with NATO and allied buyers. What is bought in Ukraine is credible everywhere.

WHAT MOST COMPANIES GET WRONG

“There is no money in Ukraine.”

True and beside the point. You do not go to Ukraine to profit — you go to learn, and you charge as little as you can afford to. The money arrives later, through allied procurement, once your product is proven. Companies that go in trying to charge American prices get found out immediately.

“Ukraine is too corrupt.”

Fifteen companies represented, $58MM in contracts closed, and not once has anyone tried a shakedown. When a founder comes home saying Ukrainians are corrupt, it usually means they did not want his product.

“It is not the war we will fight.”

Everyone you might fight is learning there. Iran supplies and operates Shahed drones. North Korea trains inside Russia. China pulls data from every mission it can reach. Your competitors’ systems are being counter-engineered in real time.

“My investors say the risk is not worth it.”

Then you may have the wrong investors. The companies in our results section raised on the strength of Ukrainian letters of intent — one of them used a $2MM LOI to get into Y Combinator.

WHAT THE FIRST MONTHS LOOK LIKE

  1. The Readiness Assessment: three calls, a written report, and an honest decision about whether this will work for you.
  2. Unit matching. We place you with frontline units in your product category — units that test seriously and speak plainly.
  3. You come to Ukraine. Presence is not optional; commanders do not take video calls, but they will drive an hour and a half to meet you in person.
  4. Iteration. Expect several cycles. Almost nothing works the first time under real electronic warfare, and how you respond to that is what the market judges you on.
  5. Funding, once a unit has asked for the product — attachés, embassy programmes, allied procurement channels.

THE READINESS ASSESSMENT

Every engagement starts the same way

Three calls: a product and technical review with your engineering team, a team and readiness review against the Ten Rules, and a 60-minute decision call with Samuel Cook. You get a written readiness report and a clear decision. The fee is credited in full toward the engagement.

A fixed, credited fee. Scheduling begins within one business day.
